Albany High School
3 hours On October 30, I spent 3 hours at Albany High School in training with Media and Technology Specialists. The training was delivered by Mrs. Charlene Dukes. In this session, she went over different apps for student engagement and assessment. Majority of the apps I was already familiar with because of majoring in Technology and experiencing and seeing my other classmates post those apps in class activities. Mrs. Dukes went over Go Formative, Nearpod, and Google Classroom. The purpose was for the Media/Technology Specialist can go back and redeliver the information that was taught in the session. Go Formative is an assessment tool that the Dougherty County School System is using for all grade levels to start taking assessment through this platform. Go Formative is a quick and easier way to get assessment results back immediately. The only issue they have been having is delivering an assessment to all students on their tablets or laptops. Nearpod is an interactive lesson that teachers can use to teach their students. Nearpod is a tool that is applied to get students to engage and actively participating in activities. Nearpod does have free lessons for almost all subjects and content. The last app is Google Classroom. Google Classroom is similar to an actual classroom, but just through the internet. The teacher is able to post assignment, questions, quiz, and grades on google classroom. Teachers and students are also able to communicate through Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an excellent platform for Middle and High Students. One thing Mrs. Dukes mentioned in her training was that if students are engaged and actively participating in the class that will diffuse a lot of discipline problems that teachers are seeing in the classroom.
