Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School Final Week 10 Hours This week I completed the final hours of my practicum. I am relieved! On Monday I worked with Mrs. Conger fixing students tablets. We finished some random equipment checks throughout the school of all the technology equipment in the building. On Tuesday, I visited a classroom and helped set up a smart table in a Kindergarten classroom. On Wednesday and Thursday I worked mainly in our computer labs, we pinned a website to the taskbar that the students will be using next week for their SFA testing. On Friday, I assisted several teachers with various troubleshooting tasks. The Kindergarten and First-grade students were introduced to Kahoot, and they loved it! While my practicum hours have been completed, I hope to continue to assist Ms. Conger whenever I am able. I feel like I have gained the trust of my colleagues in matters related to instructional technology. I look forward to being able to support them in any way that I can, even while I remain in the position of a classroom teacher.

October 25 October 29 12 hours On the 25th of October, I did a classroom observation and assistance in a 2nd-grade classroom. The beginning of the class period I assist students logging into their tablets. The great part about this classroom, the majority of all the students knew their username and password. Some of them had issues connecting to the WiFi. So, the classroom teacher (Ms. Waller) and I assisted the students to connect to the WiFi. While the students were on their tablet, they had the opportunity to read a book and take an A.R test. We monitor the children as they took their A.R test. After that Mrs. Waller played a Kahoot game with her students. I could tell that her students had played the game before, they knew exactly what do. Mrs. Waller used a QR code for the students to scan their tablets to enter into the Kahoot game. The students played a two-digit addition game. The students were excited. The one thing I really loved about this class is the energy Ms. Waller gives her students while she teaches. On the 29th of October, I spend my whole day observing 1st, 3rd, and 4th graders on their tablets. I wanted to see how they operate on their tablets, were they struggling to operate on the tablets and what type of technology apps the teachers use for their students. In every classroom that I went to the students were using Renaissance for A.R, abcya, Goformative and Kahoot. After observing I believe that teachers need to be introduced to more free technology apps that their students can use so they can be more engaged in their academics. Albany High School
3 hours On October 30, I spent 3 hours at Albany High School in training with Media and Technology Specialists. The training was delivered by Mrs. Charlene Dukes. In this session, she went over different apps for student engagement and assessment. Majority of the apps I was already familiar with because of majoring in Technology and experiencing and seeing my other classmates post those apps in class activities. Mrs. Dukes went over Go Formative, Nearpod, and Google Classroom. The purpose was for the Media/Technology Specialist can go back and redeliver the information that was taught in the session. Go Formative is an assessment tool that the Dougherty County School System is using for all grade levels to start taking assessment through this platform. Go Formative is a quick and easier way to get assessment results back immediately. The only issue they have been having is delivering an assessment to all students on their tablets or laptops. Nearpod is an interactive lesson that teachers can use to teach their students. Nearpod is a tool that is applied to get students to engage and actively participating in activities. Nearpod does have free lessons for almost all subjects and content. The last app is Google Classroom. Google Classroom is similar to an actual classroom, but just through the internet. The teacher is able to post assignment, questions, quiz, and grades on google classroom. Teachers and students are also able to communicate through Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an excellent platform for Middle and High Students. One thing Mrs. Dukes mentioned in her training was that if students are engaged and actively participating in the class that will diffuse a lot of discipline problems that teachers are seeing in the classroom. 10/23-10/26 3 hours For four days I spent 30 minutes each day working with a group of Mrs. Sisroe's students on the digital citizenship activity. Mrs. Sisroe felt that it would be better I do a small group of students each day instead of the whole group. Also, the school where she teaches is very big on productive instructional time. My lesson with the digital citizen class went pretty well. The students loved getting on tablets. It was also much easier for me to monitor the students as they progressed through the lessons. The first thing we did before starting the lesson, we talked about internet safety and what it means to be safe on the internet. Then we discuss some of the students' favorite websites to get on at home. After our discussion, the students watch the videos on their tablet. Each student was very engaged and watching the videos. Then after they watched the videos, they participated in an activity. In the activity, the students had to draw a picture of their favorite website, and they finished drawing their picture they shared their portrait with their friends. The final task the students took part in was a five questions quiz about internet safety. Overall 20 out the 21 passed the assessment. After the lesson, I could tell that the students understood what it meant to be safe on the internet. October 8th-19th
These two weeks have been tough. We experience a category three hurricane in our city and surrounding cities. Our town was literally shut down for one week with no power, no internet, no water and nowhere to get gas for cars. So, for two weeks I was not able to go to work, and for one week I did not leave my house because there was nowhere to go. The school and district where I work were shut down for two weeks. Majority of the schools did not have power. So I had to make sure I was productive and continue completing my practicum assignment coursework at home. For those two weeks, I spent the majority of my time working on assignments for this class. I finished my digital citizenship assignment and the platform for my face to face staff development. I am very nervous that I will not have the opportunity to complete all my tasks because of my circumstances. The next couple of weeks will be tough for me, but I'm working with my supervisor to work something out. Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School
8 hours 10/08/2018 No students in the building today. We had in-service professional learning day. I spent a few hours in the media center with Ms. Conger. We were scheduling out my task for my practicum class. Then she sent me to my hall to answer any technical questions that the teacher may have about technology. I went to the first-grade teachers first. Some of them were still having tablet connectivity issues. So I sat down with them and showed them step by step how to connect the student to the WiFi and then log the students onto the tablet. The issue with the tablets is that they are very old, so the operation of connecting WiFi is different from what we are accustom to. The next thing I did was help teacher with their clear touch board. Majority of the teachers only needed help with adding apps for the students on the board. I showed the program you go to, so they could download the free apps. We added Starfall, Letter Tracing and a Math game. After the first grade team, I went to the Kindergarten team. The Kindergarten only need further directions on how to successfully operate the clear touch board. I took them all through a tutorial on how to operate the board, how to write on the board, and how to add apps. The clear touch board is a new device at MLK that teachers and students love to use. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School Purpose: Classdojo Training Time: During Kindergarten planning and First Grade Panning (2 Hours) The Principal at MLK is huge on parent communication and having parents able to monitor their child's behavior. I was given the task from my supervisor to hold a classdojo training with Kindergarten and first-grade teachers. The reason why she selected those grades is that the teachers have no experience with classdojo. When she gave me this task, I was very excited because I was familiar with classdojo. I have personally used classdojo in my classroom since my first year of teaching. My main focus for today was to support and help the teachers learn how to navigate through classdojo, how to add students, send letters to parents and send messages to parents. Task 1: The first thing we did was set-up new accounts Task 2: We add the students into classdojo. I taught the teacher a quick and easy way of combining the students without doing every student one by one. We entered Infinite Campus and copied the class roster into a word document. We made sure that we had all the students first and last names on the word document. Afterward, we copied the word document and pasted it into classdojo's student list. All the students showed up into classdojo, which was a plus and no one had trouble following those steps. Task 3: We went to a tab on classdojo that said invite parents. This tab allows the teacher to print each student's classdojo account name so the parents can sign into classdojo. When each parent sign into classdojo the teacher will be notified on which student's parents has signed into classdojo. Task 4: This is the last task I did with the teacher for the day. We focused on how to send messages to parents individually and as a whole class. During this process, I used my classdojo to demonstrate to the teacher on how to do navigate through classdojo. We will have another session on classdojo next week during the teacher's planning time. Tuesday 9/18/18 at 4c College and Career Academy |
